About us

about our conference

One of the most anticipated events of the community of landscape architects in Hungary, the HALA Professional Days, opens its gates 2021 online to those interested. As in the previous years, also this year we would like to make our professional conference memorable and worth attending with renowned foreign speakers. With our this time one-day online programme, which will be held for the fourth time, we will continue the topic, that was a great success last years. This year further renowned masters of naturalistic planting design will hold exciting lectures about biodiverse plant use: Piet Oudolf, Nigel Dunnett, Sarah Price and Fergus Garrett. Down below you can find out more about the invited speakers, the outlines of the lectures and the possibilities to attend, and we hope to meet again in person next year, where, similar to the programme of 2020, we plan to continue our series with hands-on workshops.

The imagining and making of a a garden
Piet Oudolf
Piet Oudolf was born in 1944 in Haarlem, Netherlands. Since 1982, he has lived and worked in Hummelo in The Netherlands, where he started a nursery with his wife Anja, to grow perennials. His garden has since become renowned for Oudolf’s radical approach and ideas about planting design. Oudolf also co-founded Future Plants, a company specialising in selecting, growing, breeding and protecting plants for landscaping and public areas. In his 35-year career, Oudolf has achieved international acclaim, and has recently been awarded an Honorary Fellowship from RIBA for developing radical ideas in Planting Design and the Prince Bernhard Cultural Foundation Award. In October 2013, he was appointed Visiting Professor of Planting Design at the Department of Landscape at the University of Sheffield.
Plants first
Sarah Price
Sarah Price has rapidly established herself as one of the most prominent and sought-after garden designers in Britain. Drawing on a prior training in fine art and a life-long love of wild and natural environments, her gardens have an immersive quality and are often described as ‘painterly’. Her practice is unusual for its breadth and scope of work. Sarah co-designed the 2012 Gardens at London’s Olympic Park and was a planting consultant for LDA Design on the post-Games legacy design. Price continues to work on a number of large public planting schemes as well as private projects. Price’s designs have collected numerous awards, most notably Gold Medals at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show in 2018 for her M&G Investments Garden and in 2012 for The Telegraph Garden.
Artful Ecology and Transformational Urban Greening
Nigel Dunnett
Nigel Dunnett is Professor of Planting Design and Urban Horticulture in the Department of Landscape at the University of Sheffield and is one of the world’s leading voices on innovative approaches to landscape planting and urban green/blue infrastructure. He is a pioneer of the new ecological and sustainable approaches to gardens, landscapes, and public spaces. His work revolves around the integration of ecology and horticulture to achieve low-input but high-impact landscapes that are dynamic, diverse, and tuned to nature. Nigel was the first winner of the Landscape Institute Award for Planting Design, Public Horticulture and Strategic Ecology in 2018 and won the Landscape Institute Fellows Award for Most Outstanding Project 2018.
